Storage Solutions - A Helpful Hand

If you are moving house, it may be that you need storage solutions to serve as a temporary solution. Many removal companies offer their own storage solutions for you to take advantage of.

Storage companies will usually accept anything, providing it doesn't fall within the criteria below:
  • No perishable items
  • No flammable items
  • Nothing 'alive' like pets or children
  • Nothing illegal.
I know it might sound crazy to even mention giving your pets and children to a storage company, but you just never know what some people may try and get away with!
Naturally, there will be charges for any storage facilities you end up requiring, but in relation to the level of stress without them, i think we all know which is the better option!

You will need to take into consideration the cost for the following:
  • Packing
  • Delivery
  • Length of time the items are being stored for
  • The amount of space required for storage

I definitely recommend making a list of everything you put into storage, even the very tiny items (they might be the most valuable), and then you always have something to refer to should anything go missing upon delivery to your new home. Date it and keep it safe.

If something does go missing, it could be a genuine mistake, but make sure you investigate. With so many possessions that storage companies are expected to look after, i know i wouldn't like the responsibility of checking it all!

Insurance can be arranged through the storage firm or through your household insurance.

Moving House - The Stress On The Mind

Oh my, how stressful is moving house? I have heard a few times that the statistics say that moving house is more stressful than getting married, getting divorced or changing jobs. So why is this the case? Well, moving house just involves so many things all going on at once.

If moving house was just a simple case of "sell up and move" then it would be a dream process. If things ran smoothly, we would embrace the changes as a fresh, new start. But for so many of us, this just cannot be the case. We get faced with bad removal men, unexpected last minute decisions to make, and just a general feeling of "upheaval".

So how do you cope with the stress? Well, there are few things you can do to "lighten the load" when it comes to moving house. We all know children can take up a lot of our time, so on the day of the move, see if a relative can help out and pick them up from school. You need all your attention on the house move, just in case something goes wrong, so try not to break off for anything.

I recommend spending at least one day just writing everything down, planning and working out how you intend the house move to work.

What are the consequences of stress? Ill health and relationship problems are just a couple of things. When we get stressed, we tend to take it out on our loved ones, but if that person is your partner who is also involved in the house move, then the whole thing can rapidly unravel. Remember that everyone deals with stress in their own way, so don't berate your wife / husband if they get more stressed than you.

Many people don't even bother to move house because of the stress it brings. They want to move, but perhaps they are too old or too unprepared for the stress and upheaval moving house will bring. I can't understand these people that can move house every couple of years. The thought just seems ludicrous. If it is job related, then fair enough, but moving house for the fun of it? No thanks.

With the housing market suffering like it is, soon it is all going to get very difficult to move house at all, since people aren't buying. Think carefully about your moving house decision!

Removal Services And The Big Plan!

The 2 most important things when you are choosing removal services are:
  • Reliability
  • Efficiency
Price is a minor consideration, for how can you put a price on all your possessions? Naturally, you will want to get removal quotes and compare prices, but don't be lured in by cheap prices. You want the most reliable removal service that will transport your items from one location to another...and make sure they are all in one piece!

You want to make sure your removal plans are in order many weeks prior to the final move. You might find it helpful to write a checklist, just so all the important details are confirmed.

For example, put the date of when the removals are due to take place. The last thing you want to do is write the wrong date down and then find all the rest of your plans have got delayed.

It is important to check that your home insurance policy starts from the day that you move in to your new home. The worst situation - and the last thing you want - is to move in to your new house and get burgled on the first night, but it has been known to happen, so get your home insurance sorted out.

Removal services might be the last thing on your mind until nearer the time that you move, but i recommend getting the right company well in advance of your moving date. Making a rushed, last minute decision will not benefit anyone.
